At the UN General Assembly, Myanmar Foreign Minister Nyan Win, accused political opportunists, supported by foreign countries, of trying to exploit the situation in Myanmar in order to create disorder. "We are very worried because we realize that the new-colonialism has shown its miserable face again", Mr. Min said, stressing the fact that foreign countries are organizing campaigns of misinforming regarding the violation of human rights", "they are imposing sanctions, undermining that way our economy and impoverishing Myanmar’s people. These statements express the government’ first public position on the crisis.



"Mystery" about the Meeting

Myanmar Foreign Minister estimates that these foreign countries will not hesitate to invade Myanmar pretending that they are interested in restoring democracy.
Earlier, according to Myanmar Information Center, UN envoy Ibrahim Gambari had a meeting with the junta general Than Shwe without whatsoever providing more detailed information about the discussion.

No Clear Information about the death toll


Nobody really knows how many died in the crackdown. According to the government, official death toll rises to 13. The Australian Foreign Minister in Myanmar, Alexander Downer estimates that the above official number has nothing to do with the reality. According to Mr. Downer dead people are expected to reach 1.400. He also states that Australia will not allow to the military junta to place ambassadors in his country.

Japan Changes its Stance

Meanwhile Japan is reconsidering its stance to Myanmar. Tokyo is thinking of stopping sending help after the death of the Japanese journalist.
